Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad

Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad was born in 1994 and lives in Oslo, Norway. He has played the violin since he was five, but moved to the viola as his main instrument at the age of 14. He currently attends the Barratt Due Institute of Music, studying under Soon-Mi Chung in the conservatory class of the Young Talents department. He also attends Foss upper secondary school in the music department.  

He has had several soloist engagements with the Valdres Summer Symphony, participated in project with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and played with the Oslo Camerata since he was 14 years old. He is the group leader in the Barratt Due Symphony Orchestra.

In 2008 he won first prize at the Chamber Music Competition in Nebraska, USA and at theSparre Olsen Competition with his regular quartet "Lerkekvartetten".

In 2010 he won second prize in the soloist competition and first prize in the ensemble competition with Lerkekvartetten in the Youth Music Championships.

Having won the national selection in 2012, Eivind not only represents Norway at the prestigious EYM 2012, but also gets the opportunity to be a soloist with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.
