The 18-year-old Máté Bencze was born in 2002 in Debrecen, and currently lives in Hajdúböszörmény in the Eastern part of Hungary. As a child, he fell in love with classical music and has been pursuing his dream to become a professional musician ever since. Máté claims to be a big mouth, yet all his family and friends keep telling that he is a real hard worker who is fully dedicated to getting to know his music instrument inside out.
His dedication results into winning national and international competitions such as first place at the National Saxophone Contest in 2010, 2014 and 2016, and winning first place at the international music festival Femus in Serbia.
Máté qualified for Eurovision Young Musicians by winning the special jury prize in Virtuózok, the classical music talent show of the Hungarian public service broadcaster MTVA. He is a strikingly tall, strapping young lad who in recent years has gained a lot in height, as well as in experience as a musician. After entering in numerous national and international competitions, he qualified twice (2017 & 2018) for the Hungarian tv show Virtuózok thanks to the professional guidance of his long-time teacher Gábor Linzenbold.
Although nowadays his schedule is completely full of music and learning, he is a skilled BMX rider and a fan of extreme sports. Máté currently studies at the Zoltán Kodály Conservatory in Hungary.
