Daniel Hope and Tamina Kallert set to host Eurovision Young Musicians 2016

Posted 28 April 2016 at 9:45

Hope, a violinist from the United Kingdom, was recently described as 'among the best in the world' by British newspaper The Observer. He has toured the world as a virtuoso violinist for 25 years, and won the 2015 European Cultural Prize for Music. Appearing with some of the world's major orchestras and conductors, Hope will take up a position in 2016/17 with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra as Music Director.

In February this year Deutsche Grammophon released Hope’s 10th album for the Yellow Label: My Tribute to Yehudi Menuhin. It is a deeply personal tribute to Hope’s mentor, who would have celebrated his centenary on April 22, 2016 and with whom Hope performed over 60 times, including in Menuhin’s final appearance on March 7, 1999. Hope is curating a year of Menuhin concerts from Seoul to San Francisco, including a 10-day Menuhin Festival in April 2016 at the Konzerthaus Berlin.

Tamina Kallert is a German television host who started her career in 1995 with WDR as a reporter for magazine shows 'Lollo Rosso' and 'Boulevard Europa'. Since 2004, Kallert has been the presenter of travel show 'Wunderschoen', where she rides a VW Bus around Grmany and its neighbouring countries.

Tamina does though come from a musical background: her grandfather was an inspiring violin-teacher, who gave his grandchild Tamina her first small violin at the age of three. Together with her father, who is also a violin-teacher, Tamina started to play the violin soon after and throughout her time at school. A highlight was to play the Max Bruch violin concerto in front of her whole school. Later at the University of Cologne, she followed that passion and joined the University Orchestra. For the past year, the violin has come back into Tamina’s life: her four year old daughter started to play this instrument and continues the family tradition!

The pair will host the live final of Eurovision Young Musicians of 3 September, which features 10 countries from across Europe.
