Destination Edinburgh #3: Meet Croatian saxophone player Jan Tominić

On day 3 of our Destination Edinburgh countdown series, we travel to Croatia to introduce you to saxophone player Jan Tominić. Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 kicks off next month, on 18 August.

Jan Tominić was born in 2004. His love for the saxophone came when he was listening to jazz saxophone legends such as John Coltrane and Charlie Parker.
At the moment Jan is a freshman at the secondary Ferdo Livadić Music School, where he studies saxophone under Professor Tomislav Žužek. Jan participated in various competitions and festivals during his music school education.
He came first in the 52nd Croatian Competition of Students of Music and Dance in 2014. In the past two school years he also won first prize at the Varaždin Woodwind & Brass International Competition, Gold Plaque at the EMONA International Wood Wind Competition in Ljubljana, first prize at the regional competition, first prize at the national 54th Croatian Competition of Students of Music and Dance and first prize at the Davorin Jenko International Competition in Belgrade.

In 2016, he won the Oscar of Knowledge and played at the awarding ceremony. That same year, he was a laureate of the regional chamber music competition with a saxophone quartet from the Ferdo Livadić Music School and the 54th Croatian Competition of Students of Music and Dance. Jan participates in various festivals and workshops such as the School of Saxophone in Jaska seminar, national festival of saxophone players from Croatian elementary and secondary music schools, jazz workshops with Saša Nestorović, International Guitar Masterclass with Professor Lovro Merčep.
He is also an active member of the Samobor Town Music orchestra.
