All participants have arrived and rehearsals have begun at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh. Time for an update on the whereabouts of our participants!

This year's edition kicked off with a welcome reception at Usher Hall yesterday and a very special visitor today at the Festival Theatre.
Yesterday evening our participants were welcomed at Usher Hall by Fergus Linehan, director of the festival: "We’re delighted to be hosting the finals of Eurovision Young Musicians 2018. We welcome these hugely talented young musicians to Edinburgh as they compete for one of the world’s most prized titles."
The reception was a great opportunity for the musicians to get to know each other in a laid-back setting. After enjoying some drinks and bites, our hopefuls were treated with a programme of Richard Strauss and Prokofiev, performed by the Oslo Philharmonic and conducted by Vasily Petrenko.

A visit from Nicola Sturgeon

After a good night's sleep, the participants were visited at the Festival Theatre by the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon: "Congratulations to the 18 young musicians who have made it through to the finals of this prestigious competition. Scotland is renowned for its world leading festivals which celebrate culture and attract visitors from around the globe, so it’s an honour for the Edinburgh International Festival to host this fantastic showcase as part of its programme. Good luck to each of the contestants, and I am sure their performances will reach out to and inspire audiences from across Europe."
Eurovision Young Musicians is part of the Edinburgh International Festival, make sure to follow them for more backstage content as well:
