After the semifinal a few weeks ago, where eight participants took part, the first two finalists have now been announced. They are : Sonoko Miriam Shimano Welde and Soran Lind.
Soran Lind is17 (left), and plays the alto-saxophone. He was accepted into the National Talent Development Program at the age of 13, and now studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music. “I have been passionately interested in classical saxophone since I was eight years old. Originally I started out with piano, but my mother bought me a saxophone so that I could play with other children” he says. “Last year I passed the entrance examination for bachelor in Vienna, but first I have to finish upper secondary school!”
Also 17-years old is Sonoko Miriam Shinamo Welde (right), who plays the violin, is from Bergen. Her father is Norwegian and her mother is Japanese. She has been playing the violin since she was five years old, and says about herself “Aside from playing the violin, I like to be with friends, go to the movies, watch figure skating and tennis and read. My favourite composer is Johannes Brahms.”
The next two finalists will be announced next week, with the fifth and final name being revealed the following week.
