German broadcaster WDR has selected Dominic Chamot to represent them in this year’s edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians competition, which takes place in Vienna in May. The 16-year old pianist has won a host of national and international competitions, and makes him an ideal candidate to represent Germany this year.
Born in Cologne in 1995, Dominic Chamot started to play the violin at the tender age of five. At nine he moved to the piano, mentored by Ruriko Goto-Lutz, and aged 12 he was accepted into the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, where he currently studies by Professor Sheila Arnold. Dominic has played concerts in Germany, France and Belgium, and last year caused a stir with his interpretation of the complete cycle “Die Schweiz” from "Années de pélerinage" during the ‘Year of List 2011’. It’ll be a busy 2012 for him, as this summer he will debut at the Schwetzingen Mozartfest Schwetzingen and at the festival of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern after taking part in Eurovision Young Musicians.
