All six finalists already rehearsed with the orchestra's Conductor Thomas Dausgaard yesterday in Glasgow. And today they got to rehearse their repertoire for the very first time with the entire orchestra at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Six visibly excited finalists shined on stage today in one of Scotland’s most prestigious venues. Leading up to the Final that will take place tomorrow at 20:30 CEST; Birgitta, Ivan, Mira, Nikola, Indi and Máté performed, together with the full orchestra.
The rehearsals started with Norway’s Birgitta Elisa Oftestad, with Cello Concerto, 4th movement by Elgar on the cello.
Then Ivan Bessonov sat down at the piano to practice Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No 1, 3rd movement with the orchestra. Ivan was visibly enjoying himself and gave clear musical directions to Conductor Thomas Dausgaard.
Third to hit the stage at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall was Mira Foron, who felt right at home being backed by the BBC SSO. She rehearsed Sibelius' Violin Concerto, 3rd movement.
Nikola Pajanović shined with his violin, rehearsing his repertoire from Tchaikovski; Violin Concerto, 3rd movement.
After the orchestra's lunch break, finalist Indi Stivín from the Czech Republic took to the stage and rehearsed his own works Bohemian Suite for Double Bass, 2nd & 3rd movements.
Máté Bencze from Hungary was the last one of the day to rehearse with Conductor Thomas Dausgaard and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Máté made sure to finetune his rendition of Concerto da Camera for Saxophone.
After a full day of rehearsals, the participants and their delegations returned back to their hotel in Edinburgh. They have just one more night left, before the apotheosis of this year's contest takes place.
Tomorrow is the day: at 20:30 CEST the Final of Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 will take place in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, as part of the Edinburgh International Festival. One of our six finalists will be given the coveted title of Eurovision Young Musicians 2018.
