Relive the Final of Eurovision Young Musicians 2018!

On the evening of Thursday the 23rd of August, the Final of Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 took place in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh as part of the Edinburgh International Festival. The show was broadcast live online and by various local broadcasters on tv, radio and online.

Six young musicians gave it their all on Thursday night, in order to win a custom-made engraved trophy, a cash prize of €7,000 and a performance opportunity with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in a forthcoming season.
The six finalists had secured their Final place during the Semi-Finals that took place a couple of days earlier. The running order of the Final was; Norway's Mira Marie Foron, Slovenia's Nikola Pajanović, the Czech Republic's Indi Stivín, Germany's Mira Foron, Hungary's Máté Bencze and Russia's Ivan Bessonov.


Norway was up first in the Final with cellist Birgitta Elisa Oftestad, playing Cello Concerto, 4th movement by Elgar.
Slovenia's violin player Nikola Pajanović was on second, playing Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, 3rd movement.
Third to take to the stage was finalist Indi Stivín from the Czech Republic, performing his own works Bohemian Suite for Double Bass, 2nd & 3rd movements.
The fourth to perform was Germany's violin player Mira Foron who played Violin Concerto, 3rd movement by Sibelius.
Fifth to play on stage with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra was Máté Bencze from Hungary, he played a rendition of Concerto da Camera for Saxophone by Ibert.
The participant to close the Final was Ivan Bessonov from Russia, performing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No 1, 3rd movement. His performance impressed the judges the most, and landed him the coveted title of Eurovision Young Musicians 2018.
We spoke to Ivan after he was announced the winner, this is what he had to say:
